Only Sergio Manetti could create Le Pergole Torte, because he was a unique, extraordinary, charismatic man, capable of transforming emotions into wine. In 1967, Manett, then a steel industrialist, bought the farm as a holiday home. The first wine produced was a Chianti Classico from 1971. Then, with the help and advice of his long-time friend Giulio Gambelli, the following year he started planting a Sangiovese vineyard of one and a half hectares. The name imposed on the plot was "Le Pergole Torte" and the production went on the market for the first time with the 1977 harvest as a table wine, because it was out of the Chianti Classico specification.
Le Pergole Torte 50 years 2013 rises on the scale of complexity, even in the depth and finesse that the old vines certainly give it takes time to acquire safety and harmony. The cherry fruit once again becomes the center of attention, followed by rhubarb, it is earthy and floral in shades of pink. The sip is austere with strong tannins, juicy due to the ever-rising freshness, sinuous and agile, confirms the full desire to express wines with character and which invites continually to taste, never tired and more and more intrigued.
Award-winning Tuscan red, both from Gambero Rosso and Duemila Vini, Le Pergole Torte 50 Montevertine 2013 is excellent in pairing with traditional regional first courses as well as with meat-based main courses.
