The Tili winery vineyards extend for more than 15 hectares over the hills near the picturesque city of Assisi in the luxuriantly green heart of Umbria. The love for this land and its fruits is the force driving this family business that, for decades, has passionately and wholeheartedly dedicated itself to the production of top quality wine and oil.
The daily work of the Arnaldo Caprai winery is guided by attention to tradition, an inclination for innovation through experimentation in the field of agronomics and oenology, and knowledge of the land.
In the heart of Tuscan Maremma, between Livorno and Grosseto, the Tenuta San Guido estate vineyards cover 90 hectares of hillsides, growing at an altitude of up to almost 400 metres, surrounded by Mediterranean scrub. The estate’s vineyards are strictly divided into selected zones according to the different characteristics of exposure and soil composition.

The origins of the Tili cellars
The founder of the Tili family arrived here in Central Italy way back in 1200, as one of Barbarossa’s followers. And his descendants have never left. In 1978, following tradition and the family business, the owner of the company started to bottle the wine. His sole aim was to realise the dream of making the wine recognised, tasted and appreciated worldwide. And this is still happening down to today.
The Tili winery, which produces between 90,000 and 100,000 bottles a year, is now known in the United States, Japan, Denmark, Belgium, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland and Germany. The Tili wines stand out as value products due to the calcareous terrain on which they are grown, a terroir that is particularly permeable and unable to hold rainwater. This enriches the organoleptic profile of the grapes with saline. The strength of this family’s vineyards derives from the excellent geographic and climatic conditions. This combined with special growing techniques and lack of pesticides and weed killers produces wines of the highest quality. Tili products include Assisi Bianco DOC, Assisi Grechetto DOC, Assisi Rosso DOC, Gaudium, Muffa Reale, Assisi Pinot Nero DOC, Sacreterre and Young Assisi Rosso DOC.
Based in the province of Perugia, in the heart of the municipality of Montefalco, this company was founded in 1971 by a textile businessman - Arnaldo Caprai - who decided to follow his dream and produce wine. In 1988, he handed the reins of the company over to his son, Marco, who, with enthusiasm and dedication, added that extra drive that led to the final recognition of his products on the wine scene.

In 1993, the Sagrantino di Montefalco selection (which celebrated the company’s 25th anniversary) finally and undisputedly sealed Marco Caprai’s reputation as a great Italian wine producer.

Today, 40 years after its foundation, the company has made huge progress in terms of experimentation and research and also in the agronomic and oenological field, while still preserving its original identity and guiding principles of tradition, innovation and territory.
Sassicaia: top wine of Tenuta San Guido

Sassicaia is the Tenuta San Guido estate's top wine, whose history dates back to the 1920s. This was when young Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, a student in Pisa, decided to follow his dream and create a purebred wine. French Bordeaux wine was his point of reference and that of the aristocracy of the time. Later when he and his wife moved to the San Guido estate, he started experimenting and, realising just how similar this area of Tuscany is to the French subregion of Graves in Bordeaux, he decided to attempt to grow vines here, a zone hitherto unknown to the world of wine. This led to Sassicaia, which, for nearly 20 years (1948-1967), was produced strictly for private consumption. Over the years, leaving the wine to age in the estate’s cellars, he realised that with time, what had previously seemed defects became virtues. And so, in 1968, Mario Incisa della Rocchetta decided to launch on the market the first vintage of this italian fine red wine, which was given a welcome equal to that of a Premier Cru from Bordeaux. Along with Sassicaia, the Tenuta San Guido estate also produces Guidalberto and Le Difese.
